Pointe, Line and Surface
DanceBourne Arts has recently premiered its first staged performance.

Paraphrasing Wassily Kandinsky's theoretical work on abstract painting, the project 'Pointe, Line and Surface' defines and expresses the elemental nature of dance through three all-female quartet pieces exploring the themes of technique, alignment and movement and the evolution of classical dance through time.

Paying tribute to one of the first Prima Ballerinas, Marie Taglioni, the first piece of this project is based on a famous romantic choreography that takes us back to the time when classical dancers initiated to dance en pointe with non-athletic and yet technically controlled posture.

In the second piece, a neoclassical all-female quartet on original music from the composer Luke Serrano, resident senior choreographer Anne Butler transposes the timeless feminine themes of the Etruscan mythology of Tesana from classical antiquity to the contemporary age.

With the third and final piece, resident choreographer Wei Wei Zhang will challenge artists and audience exploring the unforeseen surface of a new contemporary dance piece that celebrates womanhood, inspired by a collection of music from renown female composers Susan Hawkins, Olivia Pisani and Lisa Cheney.

'Pointe, Line and Surface' is a performance project  conceived by Luanne Hyson registered and supported and funded via the Australian Cultural Fund.
