Balance
The artists of DanceBourne Arts present a series of three independent works in the programme Balance. Balance features three individual dance pieces that reflect the choreographers’ life experiences and responses to dance, and original music composed especially for the Balance programme.
Balance juxtaposes traditional and contemporary attitudes to dance and movement prompts re-imagining of technical, emotional, and visceral experiences of dance. Each dance piece is a convergence of aesthetic and lived experiences, and interpretative responses to dance.
In the first work, Balancé, Luanne Hyson takes inspiration from Balanchine’s innovative interpretation of Serenade, 1934, to music by Pyotr Tchkavoisky to suggest transitional moments in dance history. Ideas of time and movement flow are connected in Lunar Tide, by Kathleen Skipp, while the third piece, I Cried Once When Snow Stopped Falling, by Rain Francis, counterpoints emotional poignancy and bodily athleticism.
Original music is by Josh Mitchell, Norman Skipp, and Damon Smith,
